The Heart of Joyee Kala Studio
Joyeeta’s artistic journey is a vibrant tapestry woven from the threads of tradition and modern feminine power. Inspired by the bold lines of Jamini Roy and the intricate stories of folk traditions, her mixed-media works breathe new life into ancient narratives through the lens of Indian contemporary art. Each piece is a ritual of texture and color, where Hindu mythological characters are reimagined with detailed ceramic elements, kundan jewelry, and golden embossments.

Artistic Philosophy
Art, for me, is a way of preserving stories before they fade into silence. I strongly believe that India, especially Bengal, carries an incredibly rich cultural and artistic heritage that deserves to be celebrated and preserved through contemporary expression.
While I initially explored many styles of art and illustration, I eventually discovered that my love for color, storytelling, and emotion found its truest form within Indian mythology, folk traditions, and cultural narratives. That journey led me to develop my own artistic language, deeply inspired by the expressive eyes and stylized forms of Jamini Roy, my childhood favorite artist and one of my greatest inspirations.
My paintings are an attempt to bridge tradition and modernity, creating works that feel rooted in heritage while still emotionally resonating with contemporary audiences.
Themes & Symbolism 🪷
My work primarily celebrates femininity through a nostalgic Indian lens. I am deeply fascinated by the quiet divinity present in everyday Indian women: their grace, strength, rituals, adornments, and emotional depth. Through my paintings, I aim to portray women not just as subjects, but as living embodiments of beauty, resilience, spirituality, and culture.
Another prominent theme in my work is Indian mythology. Many of my paintings are inspired by stories of gods and goddesses, where each artwork carries its own narrative and emotional atmosphere. Symbolism plays a central role in my compositions. Every lotus, ornament, animal, river, flower, or gesture is intentionally placed to reflect a deeper meaning connected to the story and emotion of the piece.
My artworks are not merely visual compositions, but storytelling spaces where mythology, devotion, nostalgia, and femininity coexist.
Creative Process 🎨
Every painting begins with an idea, a story, and extensive visual research. I create moodboards and gather references to build the emotional world of the artwork before sketching the characters traditionally with pencil in my drawing book.
My process usually starts with building the background and composition, followed by charcoal sketches that gradually evolve through layered applications of acrylics, gouache, or watercolors. I enjoy slowly constructing textures, colors, and movement until the painting begins to feel alive.
One of the most important aspects of my work is ornamentation. I love adorning my women and mythological figures with jewelry, intricate embellishments, and decorative details. The final touches often include gold foil work, metallic acrylics, kundan beads, pearls, and textured elements that bring richness and dimensionality to the painting. For me, adornment is not simply decorative; it symbolizes identity, celebration, devotion, and storytelling.
Mediums & Style ✨
I primarily work with mixed media, combining acrylics, gouache, watercolors, ceramic textures, sculpture paste, gold foils, kundan stones, beads, and ornamental detailing.
My artistic style draws inspiration from traditional Indian folk and classical art forms such as Kalighat paintings, Pichwai art, and Indian miniature painting styles. These influences merge with contemporary compositions, bold palettes, and expressive forms to create artworks that feel both timeless and modern.
Vibrant colors, stylized figures, symbolic motifs, and intricate detailing remain at the heart of my visual language.
